Revictimization

If you have been sexually assaulted, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Furthermore, if you have been sexually assaulted more than once, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Because sexual violence often goes unreported, it is difficult to find accurate and up-to-date statistics, but we are continuously researching to find more information.

According to RAINN’s sexual assault statistics, one in six American women and one in 33 men are victims of sexual assault.. The National Institutes of Health published a study in conducted 1991 to determine how common repeat victimization is. Of the 423 interviewees who were assaulted, two-thirds said that they had been assaulted more than one time.

The point of talking about this is to emphasize that this is a problem and that by being hurt more than once, you lose no credibility. Many people feel that they become less believable and that their stories may seem outlandish if it happens again. We do not wish to scare people with this statistic, but to raise awareness. As people become more educated about sexual assault, perhaps we will see instances drop further. RAINN also reports that sexual assualt has fallen over 69% since 1993. While this is very encouraging, any sexual assault or repeat victimization is just too much.

This page will continue to grow as we find more research.
